Melt&Marble’s mission is to enable the transition towards a more sustainable agri-food system and beyond. Using precision fermentation, we design and produce the next generation of sustainable fats — tailored for functionality, performance, and health. While our roots are in food, we are now expanding into the personal care industry, where our fats offer unique benefits in skincare, hair care, and cosmetics.
We are growing our commercial team and are looking for a Head of business development & sales- personal care to help drive our entry and growth in personal care. This role blends strategic business development with sales/technical application experience, ensuring customers not only see the potential of our innovations but can successfully integrate them into their products.
Position summary:
The Head of business development & sales- personal care will be the face of Melt&Marble for personal care customers. You will:
Lead commercial outreach, relationship-building, and deal-making with personal care brands and ingredient distributors.
Translate Melt&Marble’s technology into tangible benefits for formulators and R&D teams.
Act as a critical bridge between Melt&Marble’s R&D team and the personal care market.
This is a senior, customer-facing role ideal for someone with experience in business development, sales, and technical applications in the personal care sector.
Key Responsibilities:
Commercial strategy and market development
Build and execute the commercial strategy for Melt&Marble’s personal care segment, including go-to-market, business cases, pricing models, and commercial agreements.
Identify and engage with high-potential customers (from multinationals to innovative indie brands), driving customer acquisition and revenue growth through B2B sales.
Develop strategic partnerships with distributors, ingredient suppliers, and formulation houses.
Represent Melt&Marble at industry events, conferences, and trade shows.
Customer success & technical enablement
Support customers during product evaluation, formulation trials, and scale-up.
Gather customer feedback to inform Melt&Marble’s product development and roadmap.
Collaborate closely with R&D and product teams to ensure alignment between customer needs and product capabilities.
Support the development of technical sales materials, case studies, and product positioning.
Cross-functional collaboration
Collaborate closely with internal R&D, commercial, and leadership teams to align efforts.
Contribute to investor updates and strategic decision-making as the personal care business scales.
Job requirements
Required qualifications:
A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field.
10+ years of experience in business development and/or sales in the personal care/cosmetics ingredients industry.
Strong existing network within personal care (ideally across both multinational and indie brands).
Proven track record of building partnerships and driving revenue in a science-driven environment.
Good understanding of the role of different ingredients in cosmetic formulations.
Excellent communication skills: able to speak both the language of business and the language of science.
Entrepreneurial mindset with ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced startup.
Passion for sustainability, innovation, and shaping the future of beauty.
Bonus points:
Technical understanding of fats, oils, emollients, or other functional ingredients in formulations.
Experience in building and scaling sales teams in a start-up or growth-stage environment.
Experience with B2B sales cycles, especially with large personal care brands or manufacturers.
Experience with global accounts and regulatory landscapes.
Familiarity with regulatory requirements and documentation in cosmetics (e.g., INCI listings, safety assessments).
