Position summary:

We are looking for a motivated and experienced Food Applications & Quality Specialist to support ingredient launches in the food industry within Melt&Marble. This role combines application development focused on plant-based meat, dairy alternatives and confectionary applications, quality control, and customer support, making it ideal for someone who thrives in a dynamic startup environment and enjoys wearing multiple hats.  

Our ideal candidate should have a strong track record in product development within food products, especially plant-based, as well as some experience in quality and compliance for food ingredient manufacturing. Experience with working in fats and oils is a big bonus. 

The candidate should also be comfortable working in the dynamic environment of a start-up company, troubleshooting challenging projects, and meeting tight deadlines. 

Occasionally, some activities may require working outside of standard working hours. The position might require travel within Sweden and abroad. 

Responsibilities and tasks:

  • Support with development of Melt&Marble’s fats for applications in product sectors such as alternative meat, dairy and chocolate/confectionary. 

  • Support customers and partners with technical expertise during joint development projects, including application and process advice, how to highlight the value of our products, and troubleshooting 

  • Develop application prototypes to find and showcase the functionality and value of our fats and produce data/figures relevant to customers 

  • Build and run Quality systems and processes for our food products pipeline (methods, documentation, routines for product consistency), including both hands-on work and coordination with external testing partners. 

  • Support processes of regulatory compliance for novel food ingredient commercialization, including FDA GRAS, EFSA Novel Foods, and in the future international quality standards. 

  • Collaborate with external labs or partners when needed for testing or validation. 

  • Maintain records and contribute to regulatory documentation as needed. 

     

Job requirements

Required qualifications:

  • Educational background (PhD, MSc, or Bsc) in food technology, chemistry, biochemistry, or related field 

  • 3+ years experience working in commercial food product development or application testing within food products 

  • Strong understanding of product development and production processes in the plant-based industry 

  • Experience working with fats & oils in food applications 

  • Experience establishing and maintaining quality systems (e.g. QC protocols, method development, HACCP, ISO standards, shelf-life studies) 

  • Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally. 

  • Comfortable in a startup environment: proactive, flexible, and hands-on 

  • Good written and oral communication skills in English 

  • Ability to work well both independently and in a team 

Bonus points:

  • Experience with regulatory frameworks for food ingredients (e.g. FDA GRAS, EFSA Novel Foods) 

  • Experience with food manufacturing standards and certifications (e.g. HACCP, FSC 22 000, BRC)
